Beatwave Bastion
A tower defense game made for the B1T Jam (only two colors) with the theme "Beat" that lasted 8 days. The game is made in a Synthwave style which fit to the color limit and music theme. Everything shoots on the same beat (or multiples/fractions of it).
The idea was to have a Synthwave melody and the player making a beat / percussion / rhythm with the differently timed towers. I have like no idea about music so I kinda had to grab whatever I could find, that somewhat fit together and isn't too annoying.
I rushed three different towers in the last four hours. Had no time to add in-game help so here it is:
- Pewder: Medium range, medium fire rate, cheap
- Tom Tom: Short range, high fire rate, medium price
- HE Thonker: Long range, slow fire rate, high price, area damage
I didn't have much time to play test and balance things especially with the new rushed towers but maybe it's kind of ok.
After beating the normal game with the countdown you were supposed to be able to enter an endless mode but Unity kept disconnecting buttons and scripts and I missed those win and loose screen buttons. I fixed the bugs within in hour after submission but no fix allowed...
I also made a slow field generator that triggers in between the Pewder rhythm with an offset but Unity decided to build for five minutes and I was like 10 seconds too late to update... That in between sound could have been so nice...
This might have been my last game jam, at least such a short one. I hate deadlines and things constantly breaking in the last hours. Also not having time to properly plan and implement things, having to rush everything and make some really messy design full of ugly shortcuts...
